Self Care Routines for Specific Organs

The Ayurveda Experience September 24, 2015

Here are some Self Care Routines to help you feel bright, youthful, light, energetic and disease-free.

    Self-Care Routines For The Lungs

Drink Tulsi tea (Occimum sanctum) regularly to make the lungs strong and protect them from the accumulation of phlegm. This is kapha in its waste form.

For making Tulsi tea, boil 7-8 dried or fresh Tulsi leaves, 5-6 coarsely ground black peppercorns, and a ½-inch crushed piece of ginger in one glass of water. Boil and reduce to half. Add hot milk or water and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Strain and drink slowly in sips.

Chewing and then swallowing deseeded 15 dried black grapes, or raisins, soaked overnight in water and taken in the morning helps to strengthen the lungs over time.

Breathing exercises (Pranayama) are very beneficial to strengthen the lungs and provide self-care for lung diseases.

A mixture of ½ teaspoon each of ginger powder and roasted cumin seeds and 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar taken with water helps to relieve coughing.

Sucking on black pepper along with sugar candy helps to reduce the hoarseness of the voice due to overuse.

    Self-Care Routines For The Heart

Ayurveda recommends taking one teaspoon of Amla powder or 2 teaspoons of Amla juice (Indian Gooseberry) every day to prevent heart diseases.

Eating two cloves of finely chopped garlic in the morning helps to keep rising cholesterol levels in check, helping to prevent coronary heart diseases.

Ayurveda also recommends sleeping with your head either in either the south or east direction only.

Self-Care Routines For The Digestive Tract

Crush 4-5 basil leaves and swallow them with water to ward off many stomach ailments.

Soak 100 gms of fenugreek seeds in 200 ml of lemon juice and keep in the refrigerator. Chew ½ teaspoon of these fenugreek seeds with dinner to take care of indigestion and constipation.

Take a stroll after every meal.

After a large meal, if you feel uncomfortable, lie on your back for 8 breaths and to your right for 16 breath cycles, and to your left side for 32 breath cycles to ensure proper digestion and the passage of accumulated gases.

    Self-Care Routines For The Kidneys

Avoid urinating after having a meal every time. This helps to avoid diseases of the kidney, bladder, prostate enlargement, high uric acid in the blood, and kidney stones.

To flush the kidneys, drink 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water every day for one week every 4 to 8 weeks.

Keep the body hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids daily for the general proper function of the kidneys.

Cut down on extra salt, and use only unprocessed salt.
