If you’ve ever had a cold you know exactly how miserable and energy sapping it can be. If you’ve never had a cold kudos! Just keep doing what you’re doing! For us mere mortals, we have to suffer the wrath of a virus that ravages our body, weakens our immune system and makes us look like vampires, the nightmare inducing kind.
According to Ayurveda there are many reasons for catching a cold. The most common is aggravating the Vata and Kapha doshas by exposing yourself to dew or snow or cold air, remaining awake late at night, bathing when facing indigestion. The cold virus can only penetrate your immunity when there is a discord in your Vata and Kapha dosha’s.
To treat the cold, Ayurveda recommends pacifying the Vata and Kapha doshas. It also has some quick go-to remedies to ease the painful symptoms that often accompany a cold.

If there is a fever, boil 10- 15 crushed mint leaves in 1 cup of water and add a pinch of rock salt and sip. Repeat 4-5 times daily at regular interval. Fever will subside.
If there is shivering, boil 10 crushed black peppers in one cup of water. Reduce to half and sip very slowly. Switch off all fans and acs. Now lie down and cover yourself completely. This will induce sweating and take care of body pain, the chills and a heavy head.
